USA - Major Attractions and Hikes of the West - A Travel Guide
Mesa Verde National Park
Location: 40 miles west of Durango, Colorado
Features: old living place of the Anasazi Indians
A very interesting place is the Mesa Verde National Park. It also has some natural beauty, but the main attraction are the old houses of the Anasazi Indians, who lived here many decades ago. The fascinating point is, that they built there houses into the rock rather than using the rock as construction material. It's really amazing to see, how those people lived here because the houses are also very tiny but nevertheless consist of several levels.
To get closer you'll have to take a guided tour by one of the rangers. They do a good job in explaining who the Anasazi were and where they came from. The whole tour takes roughly an hour.
